12 TASKS OF HERCULES TERRACE ON DVD

Following the success of Stew's "90s Comedian" DVD (currently into it's second pressing, order it here) Rich has released his first solo DVD through the Cardiff based company this week. "The 12 Tasks Of Hercules Terrace" sees Rich emulating as many Herculean tasks as he possibly can. Does he succeed? Buy the DVD & find out. More good news on the DVD front is that "Someone Likes Yoghurt" has been recorded, and is currently being prepped for release, and Rich is also due to film his current show, "Menage A Un" over the summer. If things go well, there are even tentative plans to dust off Christ on a Bike and Talking Cock if the demand for the other shows warrants it. So, what are you waiting for? Get over to www.gofasterstripe.com & get buying.

So, what else is new? Well - last month, the double act re-united for the first time in 8 years as part of the stellar "Tedstock" event at London's Bloomsbury Theatre.
If you weren't there, and/or haven't found this already, you might want to check these videos of the event taken & uploaded courtesy of Rob from NotBBC - CLICK HERE

And, hot on the heels of one benefit, comes another. This time, Stew is helping to organise a fundraiser for Resonance 104.4 FM, The radio station he and other comics have presented shows on. Resonance is a non commercial, experimental radio station which promotesthe arts in many ways. They need money to keep broadcasting, and are a worthwhile cause, so get donating, even if you can't get a ticket to "The Reso Fit", the details of which are:

On top of all this, both Rich & Stew are performing a lot at the moment, Rich is on a nationwide tour for "Menage A Un" (details on his website) whilst Stew is performing various stand up sets (mainly around London) as he warms up for 2007's Edinburgh show, "The March Of The Mallards". You can view the details of their live dates on their respective websites.
STEWART LEE LIVE DATES | RICHARD HERRING LIVE DATES

In the meantime, Stew has been working with Richard Thomas on "Kombat Opera Presents...". Stew has contributed to 2 of the 5 episodes, which are currently broadcasting on BBC2.
He's also directed some videos for Gary le Strange on the ITV show Comedy Cuts, which were then brutally cut-down in keeping with the fashionable modern assumption that no-one can concentrate on anything. See them in their original forms here - VIDEO 1 & VIDEO 2
On top of all this, he has a commission from BBC2 via a production company to write a pilot episode of a sit-com about the Norse God Thor.

Rich is currently filming his comedy drama, "You Can Choose Your Friends" which features, amongst others, longtime cohort Rebecca Front.
It is currently a one off - a "broadcast pilot" which may evolve into a full series. It is being made for ITV, and currently sheduled for broadcast on 15th June at 9pm. You can read about the filming process on his Warming Up blog at his official site.

Stewart Lee's latest DVD

90’s COMEDIAN ON DVD

Stew says; "Cardiff Comedy mavericks Go Faster Stripe shot the show in February 2006, and it’s finally available on DVD. I’m delighted to have the show available and the team worked wonders with limited equipment. I’ll flog these at gigs in late 2007 but for now check their website to get them, and please don’t bootleg them all over the place. I NEED THIS. www.gofasterstripe.com"

Richard Herring will also be recording his shows with Cardiff's Go Faster Stripe. Check his website for information of the upcoming recoridng of "Someone Likes Yoghurt" in January and for information about the recording of 2006's "Menage a Un".

Also, the CD that Stew compiled of music and comedy is now available for £15 at
http://www.hypergroup3.com/ss/sonicarts/uni/pages/product.asp?prodID=18

There will be a more substantial update to the site at some point, but not yet.
n the meantime, Stewart Lee has just issued a new newsletter. This is it.

It’s me. Stewart Lee. I’m not dead. Sorry there has been no news. But how about this?

First of all, I am currently not managed, so if anyone needs me for work stuff e the website. Sorry if you have been spammed with shit from the website e-mail. Apparently I can’t do anything about it as some Russians have got hold of my address. Anyway – here’s what’s happening.

BUZZ COCKS, FULL STOPS AND HIGNFY
I’ve been doing everything going on TV and radio, and you will already have missed my appearances on Radio 4’s News Quiz and Quote Unquote. I have recorded appearances on BBC4’s Never Mind The Full Stops and BBC2’s Never Mind The Buzz Cocks, which are broadcast next Feb and Thurs 9th of November respectively. I can also be seen later in the current series of Have I Got News For You, and a promised appearance on C4’s 8/10 Cats was cancelled by C4 executives as I had appeared on BBC2’s Never Mind The Buzz Cocks the same week. I will also pop up in a BBC4 doc on comic books next year. I directed some short bits for a massive, ongoing ITV2 thing called Comic Cuts, for Gary Le Strange, Nick Doody, Jo Neary, Josie Long, Count Arthur Strong and Steven K Amos, all of which were marvellous.

CLOWNS DOC

I was privileged to be sent to New Mexico by Radio 4 to make a documentary, White Face Dark Heart, about Native American Clowns in October. It’s in 2 parts, and the first goes out on Tuesday 14th November at 11.30 a.m. Seeing the pueblo clowns at Taos Pueblo was an amazing experience.

90’s COMEDIAN – LIVE – POSITIVELY THE LAST HURRAH

Last year’s hit stand-up show 90’s Comedian will run for ONE MORE WEEK ONLY at the Soho Theatre, London, December 18th – 23rd. Details here…http://www.sohotheatre.com/pl1189.html

What Would Judas Do?
… is the title of a new monologue I am working on. You can see two very very primitive ‘scratch’ versions of the show at Battersea Arts Centre on the 14th and 15th of December, but it won’t be at all finished. Be advised, this is a pretentious one-man theatre piece, not the kind of laugh-filled gag-fests I do as a stand-up. Yes, I am the new Daniel Kitson.

Stewart Lee - 14 November 2006 - 15 November 2006 - 20:30 - £5.00 (Concs £3.00)
Judas is best known as the betrayer of Christ, but here he explains his position using words, rope and food. From the co-creator of Jerry Springer the Opera.

TEDSTOCK
Tedstock is a benefit to raise money to release a 4 cd best of set by the cult 80’s comedian Ted Chippington, who is the reason I became a stand-up. It will be at The Bloomsbury Theatre on Monday 5th Feb 2007. The bill will include Buzz Cock Phil Jupitas, Richard Herring , the legendary Lee and Herring double act first time on stage since 1999, Buzz Cock Simon Amstell, the American novelist Dan Brown, Simon Munnery in various guises, Robin Ince, Stephen Carlin, Kevin Eldon, some music and hopefully Josie Long. Tickets should be on sale from Nov 13th. Pass it on. Ted himself will not be attending or performing at the event.

Bad film club – King Arthur or Festival?
Bad Film Club is a night where someone choses a film they hate, introduces it and then interrupts it. I’ve done 2 so far. Earlier this year I done Who Dares Wins at The Barbican, which was ace, and then last month I done March Of The Penguins in Brighton, which to be honest is actually too shit a film to screen really. On December 14th Bad Film Club have invited me back to the Barbican again where I will be ruining either that King Arthur film from a couple of years back, or C4’s comedy-drama Festival. Tickets not yet on sale, but they will be soon. http://www.barbican.org.uk/film

Sonic arts network cd

I compiled a CD for Sonic Arts Network, whose magazine had guest curators for its free disc. Comedy fans will be thrilled by exclusives from Arthur Smith and Simon Munnery, plus a track from Trachtenberg Family. Here’s the official news
“Sonic Arts Network is proud to present the eighth instalment of its critically acclaimed CD series, The Topography of Chance, curated by Stewart Lee; stand-up comedian, writer and director.
The Topography of Chance is a journey through chance elements that traverses countries and cultures that range from the Golan Heights to Arizona and from Hackney to Rome. After a surreal encounter with a Fluxus Group floating a large portrait painting down a river in Cardiff, eating Borscht out of an oil drum and learning more about late Fluxus artist Emmett Williams (the face in the picture), Stewart bought Williams’ book An Anecdoted Topography of Chance. The book documents in detail, objects left at random on the desk of the artist Daniel Spoerri and it is this premise of chance that acts as inspiration for this CD. The Topography of Chance brings together an eclectic mix of artists, comedians and writers producing work ranging from the beautiful to the bizarre.

The Topography of Chance is part of the critically acclaimed Sonic Arts Network guest-curated CD series; a collection of themes and ideas that explore the edges of music and sound. By becoming a member of Sonic Arts Network you will receive a complimentary issue of the guest-curated CDs three times a year. They are also available to buy individually from the online shop at www.sonicartsnetwork.org.

Sonic Arts Network is a national organisation that enables both audiences and practitioners to engage with the art of sound in diverse, accessible and innovative ways. The organisation believes in the unique capacity of listening to enrich people’s lives by unlocking creativity, promoting social and environmental awareness and engaging a diverse range of communities. For more information on Sonic Arts Network, please visit the website: www.sonicartsnetwork.org.”

Myspace Madness

People started telling me they had contacted me through Myspace, but I didn’t have a myspace page. I went on Myspace and there was something that looked like it was me, but it wasn’t. So I e-mailed the not-me to take it down, but they wouldn’t, and became angry with me. So I set up a myspace page, and the not-me has gone now. By all means please join my myspace page, but be advised I will not be replying to stuff from it, and also it seems to reject people or tell them the site is closed down, but it isn’t. http://www.myspace.com/stewlee

LIVE WORK

Yeah yeah!
I will be doing ragbags of old and new shit at…
Woodside Hall, Hitchin – Friday march 2nd 2007

The Stand, Glasgow – 9th or 10th March 2007

PEA GREEN BOAT AUDIO

People keep asking about this. An audio has been made of Pea Green Boat, my 2002 show. I am trying to get a deal to do an audio release of the 2004 and 2005 stand-up shows and give this away with it, but keep missing deadlines.

JERRY SPRINGER THE OPERA – CHICAGO

I read on Chortle.co.uk that JSTO is to be on in Chicago. I know nothing about this.

20th February 2006

Slightly over-due update here everyone, starting with news for all Welsh Stewart Lee fans;

Stew will be heading to Cardiff on Friday March 10th to film last year's Edinburgh show, "90s Comedian" as it nears the end of it's touring life. Details are: "CARDIFF, CHAPTER ARTS CENTRE, RECORDING OF 90’S COMEDIAN.
Chapter Box Office is on 029 2030 4400. £10 and £8. PLEASE COME TO THIS. PLEASE.
"

You can still buy the 2005's "Stand Up Comedian" DVD here. Do it, it is good.
There is more Stewart Lee news - including lots of upcoming live dates featuring new material - in his latest newsletter, which you can read here.
Richard Herring, meanwhile continues to haunt the nation's airwaves with Andrew Collings twice weekly.
Every Sunday, the two of them continue to laugh at the news headlines on Collings' BBC 6 Radio show, and every Thursday - they can be heard bickering in "Banter" the panel game - which can be re-heard at this link should you miss it in the week.

Rich, too, is gigging all over the place at the moment, doing his Edinburgh show, "Someone Likes Yoghurt" and other, shorter sets.
As for the site itself, if any of you are experiencing problems downloading the first series of the radio 1 music shows, please be patient - I've just been informed that the host says they are having network problems and may experience slow loading times, which is a bit of an understatement. Hopefully normal service will be resumed shortly.

As always, there's plenty of stuff kicking about that can be uploaded to the site, but we need the space to put it on, if any of you can spare any server space, please do let us know, and we can push some more stuff up on line. Oh, and look out for some changes to the site in the non-too-distant future / when I can be bothered. Whichever comes first.

Also - don't forget - at Battersea Arts' Centre....

16th November 2005

Just a brief update to spread some good news about an upcoming December treat for anyone in or near London.

In August was the annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and one particular highlight of 2005's Festival was "Coelacanth", by Ben Moor.

You may know him, as I did, from various "background" roles in UK comedy over the last 10 years or so. Ben has popped up in supporting roles in "Knowing Me, Knowing You With Alan Partridge", "The Friday / Saturday Night Armistice", "Time Gentlemen Please", and many more, including Fist Of Fun & TMWRNJ (hence the relevance to this site). He also does what I suppose could be called "Stand Up Plays".

"Coelacanth" is such a play, and a genuniely brilliant piece of work. Ben's set up a page for it on his site.

So, It's very good news indeed to see that Ben has organised a reprisal of this show.
It's limited London run will be at Camden's Etcetera Theatre (265 Camden High Street, London NW, above the Oxford Arms Pub) between December 6-11. It's £7.50, and is on at 9.30pm each night - apart from Sunday 11th - when it's 8.30pm.

Put simply; Go & see it. You won't regret it. Call the Box Office on 020 7482 4857 for your tickets.

And, just to crowbar a further reference in (as if one was needed) Richard Herring has conveniently just this minute posted on the NotBBC board about it, so now there's a poster-style quote to sell it to you with;
"It really is brilliant and if you have half a brain, you will go and see it no matter what distance stands between you and the gig." Richard Herring. Click here for more information.

News News News News.

Yep, something to report again, and let's get things going with some good news about the site. I've had a lot of emails over the last couple of months telling me that the "Lee & Herring's Fist Of Fun" downloads have broken. Many, many thanks to Robert Cooper for keeping the shows up for this long, but it seems that the links they've been hosted on have died.

So, huge thanks to Niall Munnelly for stepping in once again & providing us with the webspace to host them again. He is helping with a lot of downloads at the moment, so give him a little cheer if you're reading this! You can get back to the Fist Of Fun downloads on this page.

Stewart Lee - Standup Comedian

Well, I had intended to do a little update after Edinburgh, but things got busy, so I didn't. Suffice to say, it was a great festival this year. One particular highlight was Ben Moor, (formerly of the "Herring & Spaz" double-act, amongst other things...) performing another of his one man plays. This year's "Coelacanth" was a genuniely brilliant piece of work, and Ben's set up a page for it on his site. No plans for a tour or reprisal as yet, but if any announcements come, I'll put a note up here. If he does put it on again, go see it, it's great.

Meanwhile, Stewart Lee has just finished his London run of "90s Comedian" at the Soho Theatre, and is now taking it around the country (see banner, above) and Richard Herring is trying to complete a script for the BBC within it's 3rd deadline, and makes a welcome return to TV presenting a poker-based show called "Heads Up With Richard Herring".
Click the image to your right, or above, for more info.

Heads Up With Richard Herring

Stew's DVD of last year's show, "Stand Up Comedian" has just been released - click the image above to buy it online. In his own words, "Please buy it as if it does 40 000 copies they will let me do another one and they have gone out on a bit of a limb with me, to be quite honest. Don’t just copy it and give it free to your friends. Come on! I’m dying here."
There's also a DVD release of Jerry Springer The Opera due in November, so keep your eyes open for crowds of complaining fundamentalist christians near your local HMVs.

And we'll finish this latest in a string of occasional updates with a (slightly late) Happy 30th Birthday to Lord Of The Internet, Rob Sedgebeer, master of www.leeandherring.com, www.richardherring.com, www.notbbc.co.uk, and many, many more. Happy Birthday Rob.

OOooh! A new update!

Hello again everyone, it's been a while - but hope you'll agree it's been worth the wait, as there's a whole bunch of new stuff on the website - but we'll come to that in a moment.

Richard Herring - Someone Likes Yoghurt Stewart Lee - Standup Comedian

First of all, it's promo time, Both Rich & Stew are currently very active around the country. Stew is finishing the "Stand Up Comedian" shows, and you can catch him around London (see official gig guide) as he tries out new material for this year's Edinburgh Festival offering, provisionally titled; "Stewart Lee Aims To Incite Religious Hatred", or "Stewart Lee Is The New Bill Hicks™".

Richard Herring is also gearing up new material - his next visit to Edinburgh will see him perform "Someone Likes Yoghurt", a more stand-up show than his recent offerings. And you can see Rich performing standup, and previews of the new show if you check out his gig guide on RichardHerring.com

So, what's new to the site then? Well, first up we've got some new episode guides, thanks to George Hutcheon who has provided guides to complete the run of Radio One Music Shows - they're up online now, as are a whole bunch of repaired links on the downloads page.
Thanks to Niall Munnelly, not only are we able to bring back some downloads that had broken, but we can also provide a whole bunch more, so get on over to the downloads page to see Stewart Lee exchanging stand up tips with Des O'Connor, and a video diary of the creation of Richard Thomas & Stewart Lee's latest project, "Stand Up Opera". An opera, about standup. In German.

But that's not all - a massive thankyou must go out to Richard Herring for allowing us to put up two live bootlegs of his work. We have audience recordings of "Christ On A Bike" (recorded in Edinburgh 2000) and "Talking Cock" (Hull, 2001) for your listening pleasure, and very good they are too.

A special mention must also go out to long-term collaborator Kevin Eldon who is currently performing a series of 15-minute monologues on London's RESONANCE FM. "Speakers" currently goes out every Wednesday night, and is absolutely fucking brilliant. Check it out. You can listen online at the resonance website - www.resonancefm.com.
If we get enough webspace, I might see about getting some shows up here in the future. Will have to see what happens.

As always, the best place for up to the minute news, and gig dates for them both are their official sites, www.stewartlee.co.uk & www.richardherring.com, but in the meantime, hope you enjoy these latest downloads. Keep going to live comedy shows & we'll be back when we have more to add to the site!

Bye!

3rd December 2004

Hello again

Welcome to (probably) the last update for 2004.
Few things to report here, first of all, there's a new newsletter out from Stew (full version can be read here) which contains a few points of interest, primarily, that Jerry Springer The Opera - the musical success that has taken him away from UK stages for the past 3 years - will get a BBC TV airing in January 2005. It shall be within the 1st week of the new year, and apparently, "It can be broadcast unexpurgated apparently because it counts as ‘culture’ not ‘comedy’".
There's a bunch of live dates on there too - including an extra date at the Soho Theatre on Wednesday 8th December. Get down if you can, it's a great set. All the reviews are true
Despite this, Stew will be bringing a new set in by the summer, after he's filmed his live DVD.
Further to that, the composer Richard Thomas has a 6 part series on BBC2 of half hour comedy-music things set to start in 2006. It will be in the vein of his other Kombat Opera pieces (if you saw "Attention Scum", you'll know that this means...). Stew will be involved in this too, and they are filming in Wales next year. The Richard Thomas / Stewart Lee collaboration continues in Germany in 2005 with another opera about a night in a stand-up comedy club. This begins in January, and is performed in Germany, and written in German. All this and more stand up dates too...
Read the full newsletter here.
Richard Herring is busy as well, constructing a pilot for his regular "Warming Up" internet column to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and booking dates for his "12 Tasks Of Hercules" shows which will be performed across the country in the new year.
Speaking of "Warming Up" - Rich is trying to improve it, and his website, and wants your feedback - go and fill in the questionnaire here. For those of you that emailed in about Rich's "That Was Then, This is Now" show that recently closed it's six week run on BBC Radio 2, yes - it'll be up online shortly. Hopefully by the start of the new year.
In site related news, there's a few downloads that have dropped due to problems with webspace, so if you're experiencing problems - please bear with us, they'll be back soon all being well.
Also, if you are bored on New Years Eve, why not go to the Amused Moose Comedy Club in Soho, where they are having a New Years Comedy Show. Rich is performing a set, and it is a good venue.
That's it for now - happy christmas and all that shit.

Hey everyone!

Welcome back! Yes, it's been a while, but hopefully you'll agree that it's been worth the wait, we've got loads more stuff on the site now, thanks to very generous offers of webpace from all over the place.
In particular, while I'm at it - thanks to Jevs, Robert, Barry & James for all the space that we've currently got hosting files. There's plenty of new stuff on the downloads section.
Not only have we got the BBC7 repeats of Fist Of Fun back on line, but there's a whole bunch of other stuff too - there's three new clips of Stewart Lee standup in the video section. These are all taken from his appearances on Channel Five's Comedy Network in the mid-nineties.
Thanks to whoever encoded them to begin with - they were found floating about on soulseek in .avi format - I've re-encoded them to .wmv to fix a few audio synch issues and shave a few meg off the file size for download purposes. Again - whoever it was that made the original encodes, thankyou!
There's loads of Richard Herring audio up too - we've got the pilot of his never-made 1996 show "Richard Herring's Manhood" along with a brief snippet of his current show "The 12 Tasks Of Hercules Terrace" that was performed live on Radio 4 during the Edinburgh fringe.
There's also a video version of Rich's interview with Ian Lee at Edinburgh 2001 available now, and a few radio appearances from Mr Herring too. On Fred MacCauley's show - he details his plans to ensnare the Loch Ness Monster, on "Beyond Belief" he defends his "Christ On A Bike" show, and on "The News Quiz" he is a panelist.
Most of you will be aware that Rich is currently appearing in "That Was Then, This is Now" on BBC Radio 2 every Saturday.
There's 2 shows left to go, and you can read more about it at Richard Herring.com. Once the whole series is broadcast, we will have the shows available for download on this site, so keep an eye out.
James GAFYS (no, I don't know what it stands for either) has kindly donated an FTP server, which you can access at this address - ftp://fof:fof@jamesgafys.mine.nu - this has all sorts of files on - including TMWRNJ videos and the unbroadcast Fist Of Fun Pilot (encoded by those lovely folks at SOTCAA) so feel free to grab away from there - as well as all the goodies on the downloads page.
Rich & Stew are both currently doing lots of live work, Stew is even looking to set up a mini-tour in the new year. If you want him to come to a town near you - email him via his official site at Stewart Lee.co.uk. It looks likely there may even be a Stewart Lee Live DVD coming in the new year.

Hey everyone!

Slightly better news this time, thanks to donations of webspace from Frog Stupid & Dai Glo Dennis, we've managed to re-open some of our download section!

So, the third series of the Radio One Shows are back, as are both series of Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World - and the first series is now the cleaned up BBC7 versions rather than the original off air versions that still carry series 2 (BBC7 have yet to repeat these ones...)

So, the only thing we're missing at the moment is Fist Of Fun itself, which shouldn't take too much space - go on, you know you can help us out with hosting one little series (and we have the BBC7 cleaned up versions too, how's that for an incentive!)

Look out for Rich and Stew at various venues over the next couple of months as they prepare to take on Edinburgh yet again and start knocking the material into shape. All the gig dates will be shown on the scroller to your right - or by clicking here.

Don't forget to keep signing the Fist Of Fun petition - even if you've already signed it, sign it again, it all counts - and the BBC will never know, the fools.

Also, if you can help with webspace - please click here. Thanks

Bad news this time I'm afraid, unfortunately, some of the webspace that was serving the downloads on the site has been withdrawn, basically the webspace was always "on loan" and it's now being taken back for it's original purpose. Thanks, Foxy, for allowing us to use the space in the meantime...

Of course, this means that we've lost the third series of the Radio One Music Shows, and both series of Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World, including the recently cleaned up BBC7 repeats!
It looks like the Fist Of Fun radio shows might be out for a bit too - but we should be able to get them re-housed pretty soon.

I'm looking around for alternative hosting - but it might not happen instantly - so, if any of you have some spare webspace knocking about - free space that your ISP gave you that you never used, that kind of thing, then please get in touch, the less down time we have, the better.

Thanks

Another quick update to let you all know of an update to the download page. Nothing new is added, as such - but I have managed to get hold of better quality versions of Lee & Herring's Fist Of Fun and the first series of Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World from the recent BBC7 repeats.
So, that's cleaned up digital versions of all the shows - and you can grab them now by heading over to the downloads pages.
Belated thankyous too, for the encode the Kevin Eldon Resonance Radio Show on the downloads page - that was encoded by Jigsaw250 - so big thanks to him for allowing it to go up on the site, and encoding it in the first place. If you haven't listened to it yet, I recommend you do so as quickly as possible. It's great stuff.
So I'll end this update with a quick beg - Stewart Lee's "Sausage Night" benefit at Battersea Arts Centre apparently went down a storm on Friday night, and sadly I was unable to make it - although rumour has it that there's a bootleg of the show doing the rounds. If anyone can pass it this way so we can put it up on the site, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou too to everyone who has signed the petition to get fist of fun released on DVD. We're getting new signatures with every day, so who know - perhaps this could lead to something? Perhaps the BBC will take note. I mean, if they can justify issuing DVDs of such vacuous, mindless shit as 2 Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps surely there's room in their remit for some genuinely funny and inspirational humour?
Help sort it out - sign the petition.
The petition is here. | DISCUSS THIS UPDATE

25th May 2004

Just a brief update this time around to point you in the direction of the download page. Thanks to Adrian, we have now got a bit more webspace, which means a bit more content.
Added in this update are three editions of the Andrew Collins radio show "Round Table" featuring Rich & Stew, also - there's a clearspot show from Resonance FM featuring a relatively in depth interview with Stewart Lee, and the other edition of "The 99p Challenge" that featured Richard Herring & Peter Baynham as guests.
As well as all this, there's a video clip of Stew doing some Stand Up from Festival Of Fun, and a Kevin Eldon Radio Show from earlier this year, where he talks about Bhuddism in his own inimitable style.

All being well, there'll be more downloads coming soon!
In the meantime, don't forget to sign the petition & see if we can get the BBC to release Fist Of Fun at last.

22nd May 2004

Hi all,

Another update coming 'round for you all. Nothing new to add to the site in the way of downloads (although some coming soon...) but there is a petition on the site now, created and added by site reader The Dave.

The idea is that we might be able to show enough interest to warrant the Beeb issuing a DVD release of Fist Of Fun. The Day Today was recently re-issued to celebrate it's 10th Anniversary due to public demand.

Who knows? Maybe the same will work for fist of fun. Of course, this is the BBC, so it probably won't - but it's always worth a try, eh?

In the meantime, both Rich & Stew's new material is steadily progressing. Check out Rich's daily diary on Warming Up on his website to get a kind of behind the scenes look at the making of his show. There's also a stand alone website for The Twelve Tasks Of Hercules Terrace now too. It is here. It also includes dates of the try-outs & Edinburgh shows.

Stewart Lee has launched his new act too, with a couple of previews already under his belt. We went down to check out a show at The Amused Moose last week - and it's all sounding good. get along to a preview if you can.
Dates are listed here. Poster for his Edinburgh show is here.

Oh, and don't forget this.......

14th April 2004

Well, it's update time again!

We got some great stuff this time around, hence the quickness of updating!

First off, we've got a live bootleg of Stewart Lee's "Pea Green Boat" available. It was recorded at Battersea Arts Centre during the "try out" run during December 2001. and is a pretty good audience recording, ever so slightly muffled to begin with, but it clears up to perfectly listenable quality within the first minute or so.

Big thanks to Stew for allowing this to go up on the site, and all interested parties should head on over to this page to download it!

I've also been forwarded an interview with Stew from earlier this year. The interviewer is apparently one Ed Jefferson. Ed, if you're reading this - the file was forwarded to me, and I have no idea how to contact you, so I hope you don't mind the file being made available via the site.
It's a good interview, and seemingly quite up to date. You can grab it here.

Richard Herring (and, indeed Emma Kennedy) will be running in the London Marathon this Sunday - 18th April.
You can still sponsor Rich, by visiting www.justgiving.com/herringmarathon to do so, or send a cheque made payable to SCOPE to him c/o Avalon, 4a Exmoor St, London, W10 6BD

Rich will be performing Talking Cock for the last time ever on Tuesday 20th April at 8pm at the Greenwich Theatre, Crooms Hill, London, SE10 8ES.
Tickets are £15, and you can reach the Box Office on 020 8858 7755.

As previously mentioned, both Rich & Stew will be debuting new material for the Edinburgh Festival this summer - and dates for Stew's warm up gigs are still available on the archived news page.

There's been a few reports of problems with the files for the first series of the Lee & Herring Music Shows - apparently they're downloading as .htm files rather than MP3. You should still be able to play them in your browser, strangely enough, but saving them down just isn't working.
We're trying to get to the bottom of this with our webspace host and aim to get the problems resolved as quickly as possible. Please make us aware of any problems via the forum - or by email.

There's also been a few encodes of Fist Of Fun released over Bit Torrent sites of late, according to this thread in the forum, so if you're into that sort of thing - go check it out.

30th March 2004

Welcome to the new look version of fistoffun.net - apologies to regular visitors about the amount of downtime, but we're back now - and pleased to announce that the download section is back up to full strength. We've got MP3s of all the Radio One Music Shows, the radio incarnation of Fist Of Fun (soon to be replaced with higher quality captures from their recent BBC7 repeats) both series of Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World in their entirity and much, much more.
There's even a live show from 1994, and - webspace permitting - more live bootlegs to come.
Hope you like the stuff that's back, the
new stuff and the generally re-organised layout.

Almost as if it were to co-incide, Stewart Lee has announced a handful of Live Shows, and the possibility of a new Standup show at the Edinburgh Festival 2004.
Richard Herring was back on your TV screens this last week, in "The Other Boat Race" on BBC3. Sadly I didnt get the site finished in time to publicise the race itself, but if you have BBC3 - You can see the prelude to the race, as Rich & the other rowers prepare every night this week at 8pm.

Well, would you believe it?! The site's been updated!
Sorry it's been so long everyone, things have been a little hectic here at Fistoffun.net HQ and time has been a little short, but we're back - and we've got some stuff to tell you (which you probably know by now anyway...).
First on the agenda is Stewart Lee & Richard Thomas's "Jerry Springer : The Opera". Site readers from London may have already seen the massive billboards adorning your city's walls & the rather fetching posters peppered across the underground system.
So, what's it about? Well, it's an opera based on the Jerry Springer Show. That's right, Stew & TMWRNJ pianist Thomas have managed to blend pure redneck Americana with the high art that is Opera. And it is, in Stewart Lee's own words, "not at all shit."

It started last Friday on April 26th, and will be running until early July at The National Theatre on London's South Bank - get your tickets now - for further information, visit the show's website at www.jerryspringertheopera.com.

Richard Herring is just getting back from his stint at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in Australia, and will be finishing his "Talking Cock" tour before knuckling down to finish his book of the same name.
As there are only a few dates left on Rich's tour - NOW is the time to get booking up - so get on over to www.talkingcock.co.uk to find the best date for you and get hold of the relevant Box Office!

Check out his website for more information, and to check up on the latest happenings in Herring-land on his "warming up" pages...

Don't forget as well, that Rich & Al Murray's "Time Gentlemen Please" sitcom is getting repeated on Paramount Comedy at the moment ( I think it's Monday nights - check listings for more information!)
Well, we'll be back up to full strength soon - we've had some webspace offers & should be able to get a large chunk of the downloads back up soon .
Only obstacle being a few PC problems down here at this end.
There's a little work to be done, and hopefully we should be able to update the site properly within the next month or so.
Sorry again for all the delays.

In the meanime, you might be interested to know that, after the repeats on BBC7 digital radio, On The Hour is looking set to get an official, unedited (ie - containing all Rich & Stew's material) , release from the Beeb. Of course, it's a decade overdue, but better late than never, I suppose...
Also, if anyone can throw a bit more webspace our way, we'll replace the real audio versions of "Fist Of Fun" with the digitally broadcast repeats from BBC7.

14th January 2003

More news for Herring fans, Rich now has his own website. It's been in the works for the last few months has now hit the web. Packed out with immensely detailed archive trawls, as well as an online diary and many other bits.
Click on the link above for more!
There's all the Talking Cock info there too - so look out & see if Rich is coming to a town near you any time soon.

It's about now that I realise I hadn't previously linked properly to Stew's upcoming live dates - while they were tucked away in the latest newsletter, here they are again in higher profile....

Stewart Lee - "Pea Green Boat" will be performed at the Battersea Arts Centre on the following dates: Friday 31 Jan 2003 10pm,
Saturday 1 Feb 2003 10pm,
Sunday 2 Feb 2003 8pm,
Friday 7 Feb 2003 10pm,
Saturday 8 Feb 2003 10pm,
Sunday 9 Feb 2003 8pm,
Friday 14 Feb 2003 10pm,
Saturday 15 Feb 2003 10pm,
Sunday 16 Feb 2003 8pm. Battersea Arts Centre is at

OLD TOWN HALL, LAVENDER HILL, LONDON, SW11 5TN. Phone it on (020) 7223 2223.
Tickets are £10.75/ £6.50.

Get on down to one of these, I intend to - funds permitting. I managed to catch the show around this time last year when it was still a "work in progress", and even in it's skeletal form, it was highly entertaining & enjoyable.

As for this site, some of you may have noticed download problems - so here's the situation.
Unfortunately, due to the huge amount of demand for the Lionel Nimrod shows, Phil, who has provided the webspace, has had to cut off access to them for the time being. Apparently there may be a way around the problem, in which case the shows may well be back before too long.

The radio one shows seem to have got corrupted somewhere along the line, so a re-upload of them needs doing - that'll happen shortly so watch out for them soon. Everything else seems to be ok.

And don't forget, of course, that BBC7 - The BBC's new Digital Radio Station is to re-broadcast "On The Hour" in it's original, unedited form, from January 27th 2003. The shows will be broadcast on Mondays at 08:30 (am) with a repeat at 22:00 (pm) While the shows are down on this site for the time being, here's a good opportunity for everyone to hear them (and make their own copies!!!)
For those that don't know, BBC7 is a new digital radio station from the BBC that is available on DAB radio, digital TV (one of the new 'Freeview' channels), and over the internet - at this link.

1st January 2003

Well, the on-line version of the site's been a little neglected of late, but that's because work has been progressing on the new site.
This. What you are now looking at.
But, the renovations are done now, well pretty much - not everything's complete, work still continues on getting the episode guides together (there's a hell of a lot of them, so if anyone fancies contributing, please get in touch).

So what's new? Well, as far as the site goes, everything. The downloads section has been re-vamped, and thanks to webspace offers from Iain, Gary & Phil, we've bolstered our content too, with hopefully more to come. If you can donate any webspace at all, please get in touch. The image & press sections are now more refined, and easier to navigate, and new content has been added to pretty much every section of the site. Hopefully you'll find it easier to navigate too.
BBC7 - The BBC's new Digital Radio Station is to re-broadcast "On The Hour" in it's original, unedited form, from January 27th 2003.

As for Lee & Herring themselves, they remain active - Richard Herring can be seen talking about his show, "Talking Cock" in an interesting interview on the BBC website, and has organised a mini -tour for "Talking Cock", so those of you that couldn't get to Edinburgh can still see the show.
Details on gig dates, venues, costs & so on can be found on the website that Rich has set up for the show, and within the current newsletter.
Not only that, but work has begun on RichardHerring.com, which aims to be online early in the new year, and Rich is also working towards a "Talking Cock" book, which should be published in Autumn 2003. It's not all good news though, fans of Rich & Al Murray's "Time Gentlemen Please" may be disappointed to know that it is unlikely the show will return for a third series, despite being nominated for a "Broadcast Award"
Stewart Lee, meanwhile, has announced plans to resurrect his "Pea Green Boat" for a stint at the Battersea Arts Centre as well as the return of the acclaimed "Jerry Springer : The Opera" taking to the stage at the National Theatre in London from April 26th for about 3 months. Stew directed this, and it was written by TMWRNJ keyboardist Richard Thomas.

The Lee & Herring double act popped up recently too, but not in the usual way. A few months ago Rich & Stew took part in the latest online Dr. Who adventure - "Real Time".
Well, the show is finished, and has been serialised over the BBC website. You can download the episodes here.
There's an interview with Stew on his involvement with the show at this link. You can watch it in real format, or read the transcript.
Rich & Stew also took part in a signing of this, as it was released on CD. This was at Tenth Planet, Barking, on Saturday 14th December. A few photos mirrored from the Tenth Planet website can be found in the images section.

4th November 2002

Well, as far as this site goes, I'm still working on the massive update that I had hoped would be up by now. It's coming soon. Honest. That's all I can say right now.

Oh, apart from saying that thanks to lots & lots of very kind people offering webspace, we're going to be able to re-instate the On The Hour & Lionel Nimrod shows (which have all been cleaned up and "remastered" - particularly the poor quality On The Hours...)

There's also going to be a few new bits including some video clips, and hopefully the site in general will be deemed to be "better".
That's the idea, anyway....
The main hold up is episode guides, we're trying to get them fairly complete this time round, so if anyone fancies helping out by contributing some - please let us know, click the contact button....

Also, if you emailed in the last few weeks, please re-mail, as there's been email problems. I'm referring in particular to someone who emailed me about a League Against Tedium site. So here's a personal plea - I got your mail, and yes, I can help - but I lost your address - Please write back!

In the meantime, I thoroughly recommend you go check out Richard Herring's "Talking Cock", - details can be found on his website - here...

And, as Jeanette kindly pointed out in the forum, here's a message from Stewart Lee....
"Dear everyone
It's me. Stewart Lee. I am helping organise this benefit and hosting it so please come and tell anyone you know about it.

Just a quick update this time, to let you know that there's some changes afoot.
Having got a bit tired of the site layout, Work has started on a massive update. And for that, you can read overhaul of the site.
Work's going well, but a lot of time has been robbed of me of late, so it's not been ready to go up for the September update as had been hoped.

Hopefully you'll get the new look site for the October update. And, if any of you out there reading this fancy contributing - with episode guides, something I may have missed, webspace, or just anything then please get in touch via the usual methods.

Unfortunately, the large chunk of our downloads are still offline, but we hope to have some stuff back up shortly, maybe in time for the October update. But it's not all doom and gloom - we still have enough webspace to host one series of Lee & Herring material.
And it's the ones you've all been waiting for.....UNCUT FIST OF FUNs.

Thanks go out to Stephen Kent-Taylor & Liz K for supplying us with the missing episodes, and to Paul for providing the webspace, unfortunately we only have enough webspace for real audio versions of the shows, but - as the shows are largely speech based, the flaws of the medium are not too obvious, and the quality is actually really very good.

So, get on over here for some uncut download action. Please bear in mind that this is just a hastily knocked-up page to hold the downloads until the new site is up online...

Also added is a clip from Simon Munnery's "Attention Scum" BBC series, which was directed by Stewart Lee. In this clip, Stew makes his only in-front-of-camera appearance of the series in a sketch involving "The New Flippancy". Go look.
Oh yeah, and Rich & Stew are now back from their respective jaunts in Edinburgh. All in, both shows received very good press. Reviews, pictures, etc will be added to the site in the next update.

In the meantime, you can see Richard Herring talking about "Talking Cock" on the BBC website, here. Currently Stew has announced no plans to resurrect Pea Green Boat in London, although it's highly likely that he may do so. Rich, on the other hand, has organised something of a mini-tour for "Talking Cock", so those of you that couldn't get to Edinburgh can still see the show.
Details can be found on the "Talking Cock" website

6th May 2002

Hello, and welcome to another update.

I've now resolved to try & update the site (roughly) once a month, this was initially meant to be an archive site, but I've been getting so much material sent for inclusion it seems to be going that way anyway.
This month, we've a couple of new MP3s for you. The first comes in the shape of a Chris Moyles feature from March 2000, it's some publicity for TMWRNJ2, and if you ever wondered what Stewart Lee gargling the theme from "The Simpsons" sounded like, now's your chance to to find out.

We've also been supplied with an MP3 of Rich & Stew presenting Top Of The Pops back in 1995. It's only sound, not vision, but I'm reliably informed is all the links between bands that the duo presented. Thanks to Robin Schroder (who also supplied the missing Lionel Nimrod show) for passing these on.
A few new bits and pieces have been added to the press section too, including the flyer for Stew's recent Vortex Benfit gig, and a review of the night's proceedings (including a staggeringly worrying account of Johnny Vegas' act) - thanks to Dave Bryant for that, aswell as a couple of new interviews.

Also, (and this is the big one) we have both series of "On The Hour" ready for download for you now. Huge big massive thanks to Jason for helping out with enough webspace to house the shows, and to TJ Worthington for supplying us with the shows in the first place.
These are the FULL, unedited radio versions of On The Hour which include Lee & Herring's contribution to the mix.
So get downloading, and enjoy.
Before you get e-mailing and telling me that the music shows are down again, the situation is noted, I'm currently looking at moving them to a new server, and should have some - if not all of them - moved across within the next few weeks, please be patient.

As for live dates, Richard Herring is soon to be performing try-outs of his new show "Talking Cock", which is apparently yet to be written, so these try-out shows should prove to be very interesting.
Stewart Lee is also due to perform a few gigs, including "The Banana Cabaret Charity Special" on Sun May 19th, along with Al Murray & others. More details of these dates, including box office details, etc...can be found in the latest newsletter.

In addition to these live dates, I received an email from Paul Putner last week.
Everyone's favourite inquisitive citrus fruit's alter-ego is performing this month.
"Earl Stevens - Puh-leez" is Paul's 2001 Edinburgh show, which he's reprising at the Soho Theatre, Dean Street from the 15th-19th May.
Paul says "If you've seen it before come and see it a second time as it's much funnier now I've added an extra joke."
and yes, he does know that penitentiary is spelt wrong on the flyer.
Click the flyer for a larger image, and for further information on the show, click on the links below.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4243249,00.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4242610,00.html http://www.chortle.co.uk/edfest2001/edshows.html

To round things off, it's also probably worth mentioning that there's been a minor re-shuffle on the site. The press page has grown so much that it's now been divided into separate sections. This is probably just a temporary measure and I'll tidy the whole thing up when I can be bothered / get the chance, whichever comes first.

5th April 2002

Yes, that's right! Rich & Stew are due to appear in the next online Dr Who adventure, "Real Time", Colin Baker takes on the role of the Doctor, and Lee & Herring are part of the supporting cast (pictured). More information can be found at BBC online, or in the article that has been reproduced on our press page.
Also on the press page, we have a bunch of new additions, including some rare Vox magazine articles from 1995. Thanks to Marcos Sullivan for supplying us with them.

We've also got "Why Not Try Going To Prison?", an exclusive video clip from the unbroadcast pilot of Fist Of Fun - thanks go to Joe SOTCAA for that one, it's a realmedia clip & can be found on the downloads page.
See if you can tell who the prisoner in the clip is too...

Also, with the help of Robin Schroeder, we've managed to track down the missing Lionel Nimrod episode, which should now be on line for download, along with all the others (which disappeared temporarily due to mysterious server errors).

As for the music shows, unfortunately they're still going up & down (see the forum for details), although some of you with download managers have managed to grab some bits & pieces. Please bear with us, we're looking at moving them do a different server shortly, and of course, if there any offers of webspace - they would be gratefully received.

Now, we must also mention some upcoming live dates from both Rich & Stew, after performing (perhaps) the last UK date of "Christ On A Bike" in Brighton, Rich is currently down under performing the show at the Melboune Comedy Festival in Australia.
Details are on www.comedyfestival.com.au

Stew, meanwhile has a couple of dates coming up in the UK:

Having met a property developer who wanted to buy Stoke Newington’s famous Vortex jazz club, and disliked him intensely, Stewart Lee has blackmailed a once in a lifetime line up of talent spanning three decades of comedy into appearing at the Comedy For The Vortex benefit.
Profits will go the Vortex Jazz Foundation, which aims to keep this vital venue open and extend its activities to include community music resources and a jazz archive. Please tell all your friends!"

Stew also has a couple of other dates this month:

Saturday 13th April, Chuckle Club, LSE, London, see Time Out for times etc.
" I'm doing a slot on the normal stand-up bill. I don't know who else is on."

Monday 22nd April, The Comedy Store, Leicester Square, London.
